We are the client, Mr Tewarie

Planning Minister Dr Bhoe Tewarie, in commenting on the High Court decision in connection with the Invaders Bay project, is reported in the press to have said making public legal advice between counsel and client would undermine a principle by which the judicial system operates.

But in this matter, who is the client? Since in our democracy the Government is the representative of the people, are not the people (in this case, the Joint Consultative Council) included in the category of client?

Since Sir Fenton Ramsahoye would have been paid from public funds, are not the people entitled to know what his advice was? This administration has pledged to serve the people. This issue gives it a wonderful opportunity to do so by providing full disclosure.
