ToolsWhen police service vehicles go home...The floating of the idea of police vehicles being used by officers off duty may have merit, but the downside appears greater in this equation. Officers already allegedly put police vehicles to private use to transport spouses and friends and officers are not universally known for their unquestionable moral and ethical standards. Indeed, it is not uncommon for domestic disputes to end in murder and suicide as in the past and since there is no art to find the mind's construction in the face officers may not be presumed to be all trustworthy. It has also been alleged that police weapons have been rented out to criminals. And quite separately, one would have assumed that any officer going home is replaced by another taking over his duties. Which vehicle would the relieving officer use if the off duty officer took home the operational vehicle? Are we considering a 100 per cent increase in police vehicle population?
