ToolsWhere are the police patrols? At 3 a.m. on Sunday 7th October my daughter and her friend were coming from a birthday lime when she got a flat tyre in the vicinity of Pasea Road, Tunapuna. Her father and I went to her assistance. When we arrived she told us that she called the Tunapuna Police Station for assistance and the officer who answered informed her there were only two of them on duty and they could not help her, but she could lock the vehicle and make her way to the station. What kind of stupid advice is that? Is it that he wanted some kind of harm to come to these young women? In the 30 minutes we were out there we saw a crowd gathered nearby. I thought there was some sort of party taking place in the nearby street only to realise they were supporters of two vehicles – a white Lancer and a dark blue Lancer – which were drag racing from the Pasea lights to the UWI lights. If any of the "contestants" involved had gotten into an accident their families would have been holding their heads and bawling, saying the victims were careful drivers and they could not understand how they lost control. What is even worse is that they were putting other drivers' lives at risk. What nonsense is that and again no police in sight! Is it that police patrols are only for daylight hours? No wonder lawlessness reigns supreme. The officers are not vigilant, their visibility is almost nil. No wonder they were against "21st Century Policing". Their butts would have to be out there working instead of being in the stations sleeping. A Campbell Via e-mail |
