ToolsWhich chip Jack?National Security Minister Mr Jack Warner indicated that his plans to tackle crime include technology that would "pinpoint the criminals, the weapons and their location". If/when this project should come to fruition it should go a long way in helping to alleviate our escalating crime situation. However, Mr Warner in a previous incarnation, promised technology that was also supposed to "blow our mind and the mind of every criminal in this country" with the introduction of standardised number plates that contained a microchip with the same crime-fighting capabilities. If these licence plates are to be included in his new shipment of crime-fighting equipment, then all praises would be extended to Mr Warner. Otherwise, the only chip this population will ever be exposed to, would the one on our shoulder, brought about by this terrible crime situation we are now experiencing. Should we keep our fingers crossed in the hope of seeing this new governance promised a couple years ago, or will it just be a chip off the "old block'' ? Gregory Cockburn via e-mail |
