Why is St Clair so special?Since Louis Lee Sing became Mr Mayor he is constantly in the news and on his radio station, getting involved in issues to the point that one can say "Oh God, he again, what now?" I have witnessed Carnival and Jouvert growing out of the crush of downtown into Woodbrook, St Clair, St James and Mucurapo Road in the west. All these places are affected by paint, pee and garbage. The garbage is now being satisfactorily dealt with. There is paint for Jouvert all over but the Mayor is closing off St Clair on the pretext of paint. What about Woodbrook, St James, Mucurapo Road, Long Circular Road, by the Stadium, downtown? If it is paint, Mr Mayor, close off these areas too. You are choking Jouvert by closing off St Clair, especially as Ariapita Avenue is reserved only for pan (worthy experiment to expand the Jouvert). When the steelbands play on Ariapita Avenue where do they go? To cause more gridlock. Why St Clair? What is so special about the people living there? What do they have that others don't? Please tell us Mr Mayor. Any special reason for your plan? I lived St Clair since 1959 and I have marvelled at the growth of Jouvert which you now want to choke and kill. Every year my walls are painted as are the walls in Woodbrook et al but I do not support closing off St Clair like in colonial days. Let the mas grow and spread. Put DJs on the road Carnival Monday night, around the Savannah. Let we ting grow. Do not discriminate and in so doing confine and choke it. Michael Alexandra via e-mail |
