A 46-year-old businessman was gunned down as he sat in a car along a busy main road in San Fernando yesterday.
Anthony Joseph, whose addresses were given as Claxton Bay and Santa Cruz, was shot in his car parked at Circular Road.
The incident occurred at around 10.30 a.m. when Joseph was shot multiple times by a lone gunman at close range from the left passenger side as he sat in the driver’s seat of a Nissan Wingroad wagon. The car was parked at the side of Inner Person Clothing Store. Joseph died at the scene.
District Medical officer Dr Silochan ordered the body removed to the San Fernando mortuary.
An autopsy is expected to be performed tomorrow at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
Residents told police that following the shooting the gunman walked away, and is believed to have entered a getaway car.
They told police they had seen the car parking there several days earlier, but they did not know Joseph.
However, residents would not speak to the media at the crime scene, claiming that they had seen nothing.
Homicide detectives said the killing was “an organised hit”, but did not yet know the motive.
Detectives of the Homicide Bureau (South) are continuing investigations.
His killing brought the murder toll for the year so far to 258.
At this time last year, the murder toll stood at 216. —SM
