Electoral College meets next Friday to elect president

The Electoral College yesterday confirmed the Speaker of the House has received the nomination paper for Justice Anthony Carmona SC.

According to a media release from Parliament yesterday, the Electoral College said in accordance with Section 26 of the Constitution, it will meet February 15 in the Parliament Chamber, Tower D, International Waterfront Centre, Port of Spain, to elect the president of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Electoral College said 12 members of the House of Representatives acted as signatories to the nomination paper.

It was signed by Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar SC, MP for Siparia; Labour Minister Errol McLeod, MP for Pointe-a-Pierre; National Security Minister Jack Warner, MP for Chaguanas West; Legal Affairs Minister Prakash Ramadhar, MP for St Augustine; Public Administration Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan, MP for San Fernando West; Public Utilities Minister Nizam Baksh, MP for Naparima; Sport Minister Anil Roberts, MP for D’Abadie/O’Meara; Transport Minister Chandresh Sharma, MP for Fyzabad; Minister of Science and Technology Dr Rupert Griffith, MP for Toco/Sangre Grande; Minister in the Ministry of the People and Social Development Vernella Alleyne-Toppin, MP for Tobago East; Tourism Minister Stephen Cadiz, MP for Chaguanas East; and Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal, MP for Oropouche East.
