2 cops injured in high-speed chase

By —Joel Julien

A GROUP of suspected car thieves yesterday slammed their vehicle into a police car in an attempt to evade capture during a high-speed chase which left two police officers hospitalised.
The drama unfolded around 11 a.m. as officers of the Freeport Highway Patrol saw a silver-grey Nissan B13 motor car heading North along Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway.
The car fit the description of a vehicle that had been stolen earlier in the day.
The officers gave chase and called for back-up.
Officers of the Central Division Task Force are said to have responded. The chase continued to Uriah Butler Highway, where officers of the St Joseph Criminal Investigation Department (CID) joined in.
In the vicinity of Grand Bazaar, in what is believed to have been an attempt to evade capture, the driver of the car being chased slammed into one of the police vehicles. The suspected stolen car ran off the road as a result of the collision.
Three men, all from Malick, Barataria, are currently in police custody in relation to the incident.
The two police officers in the car that was struck sustained injuries and were rushed to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
