AN airport security officer was among two people arrested on Monday in connection with human trafficking in Trinidad and Tobago.
The two men were arrested around midday after officers received information they were involved in the illegal importation of Venezuelan women.
Police said officers of the Criminal Gang and Investigation Unit, Northern Division officers and detectives from the Special Unit in Port of Spain went to Piarco International Airport, where the security officer was arrested.
At the time, he was on duty.
The officer, who police said was in his mid-20s and employed at the airport for the past six years, lived at an address in La Horquetta.
Detectives said after arresting and questioning the officer, they received additional information which led them to a house in Maloney, where the second man was arrested.
He was also said to have been in possession of a quantity of marijuana.
Up to yesterday evening, they were being held at separate police stations in the Northern Division.
Investigators said the women were brought into this country and then placed in brothels as prostitutes.
Officers said the men will be charged and taken before an Arima magistrate sometime this week.
