2 teens in court

By Rickie Ramdass

TWO teenagers are expected to appear in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court today charged with the murder of Kendall Thomas, 24, who was snatched from a maxi-taxi along the Priority Bus Route (PBR) in Beetham earlier this month.
The boys, ages 14 and 17, were charged by homicide detectives on Tuesday but their court appearance was delayed as a result of the Christmas and Boxing Day holidays.
They were among three people who were initially arrested in connection with Thomas’s abduction and murder on December 11, but the third person, a 19-year-old man, has since been released pending further investigations, police said.
Defence attorney Fareed Ali will be representing the teenagers during their court appearance today.
Thomas was taken from the maxi-taxi by three gunmen who boarded the vehicle when the driver stopped to drop off a passenger close to 19th Street, Beetham Gardens.
He had reportedly begun arguing with the men while they were robbing passengers before he was taken and dragged out of the maxi and into Beetham Gardens.
Following the incident, police swooped down on the area and carried out a search for Thomas and his abductors.
The next day, Thomas’s body was found dumped in a large drain with a brick tied to its feet to keep it from being discovered.
An autopsy revealed Thomas had been shot to death.
