24-year-old Vincent Robinson of Bon Accord in Tobago has been committed to stand trial at the Tobago High Court.
Robinson is to be tried for the murder of 65-year-old Deolal Balgobin and attempted murder of his 49-year-old Lilliwattee Sookhoo on April 6, 2010.
Senior Magistrate Annette McKenzie handed down the decision last Friday, at the Scarborough First Court, when it was determined enough evidence was made.
Police reports state the Debe couple were asleep at their Canaan home, behind their tyre shop(D#1 Tyre shop), when a back door was broken down shortly before 2 a.m.
A man armed with a cutlass entered and began chopping the sleeping couple repeatedly about the body.
An alarm was raised, the assailant fled, and Sookhoo phoned the police.
Emergency officials later arrived. The couple were rushed to the Scarborough Regional Hospital, where Balgobin later died. Both had been residing in Tobago for approximately 15 years.
WPC Quashie George is the complainant in the matter.
