A TOTAL of 25 people were arrested between Friday night and early yesterday morning in east Port of Spain following an exercise carried out by officers of the Port of Spain Division, including the Criminal Investigation Department and Task Force.
The exercise, which was spearheaded by Snr Supt Wayne Boyd and coordinated by Supt Ajith Persad and also included Insp Sahadeo Singh, Sgt Gokool and Cpls Budrie and Williams, began around 6 p.m. on Friday.
Among those arrested was a 21-year-old Nelson Street, Port of Spain man for the possession of a .38 revolver and six rounds of ammunition.
Officers also arrested another man and charged him with breaking in and stealing items from four business places in East Port of Spain, while an illegal Jamaican immigrant was detained in Laventille.
Police said they also arrested nine people for possession of crack cocaine, while the rest of those arrested were for a number of outstanding warrants for break-ins and larcenies.
Police also reported that they carried out three road-block exercises on Friday—concentrated on Independence Square, Duncan Street and Ariapita Avenue—while the raids were going on.
Several of those arrested will be appearing before a Port of Spain Magistrate this week.
