TWO FIFTEEN-year-old boys along with a 20-year-old man appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate charged with the murder of another teenager sometime last week.
Due to the fact that they are underage, the names of the two teenagers cannot be used in newspaper reports.
When they appeared, the teenagers’ parents were asked to stand next to them.
The eldest however, is Jonathan Johnson, aged 20. He stood alone and all three were read the charge before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar.
It was alleged that between October 17 and 24 at Borough Road which is off Old Bay Road in Maracas they did murder Reno David, aged 17, Ayers-Caesar said.
The charge was laid indictably and they were not called upon to plead.
Attorney Ian Brooks who represented one of the 15-year-olds yesterday said that he was told that his client had been taped to a chair and that he was interviewed by the police without a parent or guardian being present.
Attorney Brooks also requested video footage of the police station where the client was held.
Fareed Ali, the attorney for Johnson, said that his client was arrested on October 22 and was denied an early opportunity to seek advice from an attorney.
Attorney Ali then asked the court to made a judicial note of this.
Ali also said that his client did not get an opportunity to have a bath for approximately five days although he was entitled to the privilege of such. Ali also asked for full disclosure with regard to his client — caution statements, a first description of the accused from the State’s identification witness, copies of station diary extracts, certificate of medical analysis, post mortem reports with regards to the murder victim and the criminal records of witnesses in this matter.
The Chief Magistrate agreed to assist the defence with their requests.
The two 15-year-olds were then remanded into custody to the St Michael School for Boys, when they are aged 16 they will be remanded to the Youth Training Centre.
Johnson was sent to the Remand Yard.
The matter was adjourned to November 26.
