$.35m bail each for men on marijuana trafficking charge
THE six Diego Martin men who were on Monday charged with trafficking $6 million worth of marijuana were each granted $350,000 bail yesterday.
One of the men, Jahzeel Joseph, 27, of Sea Trace, River Estate, is charged with two offences — trafficking marijuana and trafficking 479 packets of marijuana.
The other five men — Joseph Dass, 24, of Never Green; Richard Roberts, 21, of Savannah Terrace; David Richards, 35, of Queen Drive, Bagatelle; Dwight Frank, 23, of Andrew Street; and Salim Walke, 25, of Sea Trace — all appeared before Magistrate Gloria Jasmath, charged with trafficking close to six kilogrammes of marijuana on September 6.
The men are also accused of shooting at five police officers. They are also charged with shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm to constables Jared Cario, Jason Clement, Alvin Duntin and corporals Marlon Linton and Dillon Constantine. They were held in some bushes by officers of West End Police Station on September 6.
The five men, who were all represented by attorney Criston J Williams, are also charged with possession of a pistol and eight rounds of ammunition, and possession of the firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
The six are to report to the West End Police Station every Monday and Wednesday between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. They were all ordered to surrender their passports.
Their next court date is October 8.
