5-year-old's hands burnt, mom charged

By Nikita Braxton-Benjamin

A 28-year-old woman was charged yesterday with burning both hands of her five-year-old son with a hot kitchen utensil.

She will appear in the Princes Town Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The mother of four was charged with wilfully assaulting the boy to cause unnecessary suffering and injury.

The charge was laid under Section Three of the Children's Act.

It was alleged that the sales clerk burnt the child with a hot fork on Tuesday after she was told that he had stolen from a teacher's handbag earlier in the day.

Police officers were told of the boy's burns by a male relative who does not live at the house.
