AK47 rifle found in Arima

AN AK 47 assault rifle was found on Wednesday afternoon on an abandoned plot of land in Samaroo Village, Arima and although no-one was arrested, police said they have a suspect in mind and he will be detained within a week.

The team of officers led by Snr Supt David Abraham along with Insp Mark Maharaj and Sgt Pitt went to Samaroo Village around 4 p.m. after receiving information about the location of the gun.

The rusty, but still usable Russian-made rifle, an extended magazine and a United States Army bullet proof vest were found buried on the plot of land. No one in the area however was able to say who the gun and other items belonged to.

The gun and magazine were then seized and taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James where it was examined.

Northern Division detectives are continuing investigations.—GG
