ANJANIE RAGOO, the mother who left her child home alone while she drank at a bar, was yesterday placed on a bond by a San Fernando magistrate for willfully neglecting the ten-year-old boy.
Her tearful husband told the court he would make attempts to avoid it happening again.
Ragoo, 40, of Claxton Bay, pleaded guilty last week to the offence before Fourth Court Magistrate Indar Jagroo.
On August 11, at around 1.40 a.m., police went to Ragoo's Claxton Bay home and found the boy home alone. He was medically examined at the Couva Health Facility and then taken into State custody.
Ragoo was later found at a bar in Claxton Bay, staggering and smelling of alcohol.
She was charged by WPC Pitt with willfully neglecting or exposing her child in a manner to cause him suffering or injury to his health.
During her court appearance last week, Ragoo complained of feeling unwell and was remanded in prison custody to be medically examined.
Yesterday, Jagroo asked Ragoo whether she had a drinking problem.
"No, I don't think so," she said.
A man who identified himself as her husband said he "would try not to make the mistake happen again".
He was seen wiping his eyes during Ragoo's court appearance.
Jagroo said he needed the intervention of a probation officer and ordered that Ragoo visit the office once a week. She is also to attend counselling sessions.
Jagroo said a record would have to be kept, and if she failed to comply, Ragoo will be in breach of the bond to keep the peace for a year.
Last week, Fea Brown was also placed on a bond by the magistrate on a similar charge.
Brown had left her 11-year-old son and five-year-old daughter alone at home while she attended a baptism.
