Accused of threatening PM, State lawyer to prosecute

A State attorney will be appointed to prosecute 23-year-old Nicolai Marfan, for allegedly threatening the life of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar last month.

During yesterday's court appearance court prosecutor Sgt Harrylal Maraj told Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar that the matter would be dealt with by a State-appointed attorney and not by the police prosecutors when the matter comes back up on December 13.

Maraj said the exhibits in the matter were still at the Cybercrime Unit and would not be available until the next two weeks.

Marfan, a porter employed at Piarco International Airport is accused of making a phone call to officers of the E-999 Rapid Response Unit on October 10 stating he was going to kill Persad-Bissessar.
