Another baby left locked in car: man held

POLICE are continuing investigations after an 18-month-old boy was rescued from the back seat of the car he was left by a 50-year-old man who went shopping.

The child was alone and crying in the black Toyota Corolla parked on the compound of Price Plaza, Chaguanas, on Saturday.

The windows of the car were up and the doors were locked. Officers from the Chaguanas Police Station were on patrol in the area when they were alerted by shoppers that the child was in the vehicle.

He was crying and gasping for air, eyewitnesses said. Officers broke the back glass of the car to gain access to the child.

It was unsure how long the boy had been inside the car which was said to be hot. The toddler was given water by a female police officer after he was rescued and also taken for medical attention.

A 50-year-old was taken into custody for questioning. Superintendent of police Johny Abraham yesterday told the Express that “investigations are continuing.”

About two weeks ago, 17-month-old baby Jaedon Cudjoe died from hyperthermia, due to extreme heat, after he remained in the back seat of his grandfather’s car for over eight hours.

Winston Jerricho Cudjoe, 56,  has since been charged with manslaughter.
