Another sink hole in San Fernando

SOON after the repair of a sink hole at Scott Street, San Fernando, on Tuesday, another crater developed in another part of the city.

A press release from the San Fernando City Corporation yesterday stated that the hole formed overnight near the traffic lights at Bamboo Junction, South Trunk Road, La Romaine.

Workers from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and the Ministry of Works visited the scene at 7 a.m. on Wednesday with councillor for Les Efforts West/La Romaine, Anthony Ramkissoon.

The press release stated: "The two teams started to work around 9 a.m. excavating and around 2 p.m., one of the eight-inch mains which was directly connected to a 24-inch main gave way, causing a serious flow of water into the trench.

These two teams worked throughout the night until Thursday morning for the benefit of the residents in the Southern area so that they would not have to wake up this morning without water in their pipes, because water had to be diverted from the 24-inch mains in order for repairs to take place on the eight-inch mains."

Ramkissoon said yesterday that the ten-foot deep hole was fully repaired and workers from WASA and the Ministry of Works worked until 3.30 a.m. yesterday.

He said the only thing that needed to be done was for the area to be repaved.
