Autopsy: Stella was strangled

By Susan Mohammed

PENAL mother of two, Stella Rampersad, whom police were told had died from a fall, was strangled to death, an autopsy found yesterday.

Rampersad died on Friday evening after an altercation with a close male relative.

A 25-year-old Guyanese national has been in police custody since the weekend.

Homicide investigators have asked their legal advisers to peruse the case file before consultation with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Rampersad, of Moolchan Trace, Penal Rock Road, was pronounced dead at the Siparia District Health Facility, at around 7.30 p.m. Police were told that she fell and hit her head.

However, an autopsy on Wednesday at the Forensic Science Centre concluded that she died of manual strangulation.
