Awardee Vernon Ramesar Snr dies

VERNON RAMESAR Snr, who was awarded the Public Service Medal of Merit (Silver) for his involvement in the education system in 2010, has passed away.

He was 81.

Ramesar Snr, a past principal of what is now the Couva East Secondary School, was also a respected radio broadcaster.

His son journalist Vernon Ramesar Jnr said his father suffered a heart attack at his Lange Park, Chaguanas, home on Monday evening, at around 7 p.m.

He was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where he died while undergoing emergency treat- ment.

Ramesar Snr was the father of five and the grandfather of three.

Vernon Ramesar Jnr described his father as the most amazing person he knew.

"He was an amazing man in many ways. He was the most patriotic person I knew. He was never racially inclined. He never had a bad word to say about some-one from a different race, and that was amazing to me coming from someone during his era."

The funeral of Vernon Ramesar Snr will take place tomorrow at the St Charles Presbyterian Church, Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas. The interment will take place at the St James Crematorium, Long Circular Road, St James.
