Baby dies from car crash injuries

By Carolyn Kissoon

A five-month-old baby girl died yesterday, a week after she was critically injured in a crash. Baby Jessica Mohammed was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the San Fernando General Hospital.

She dies at around 9a.m. Her father, Selly Mohammed, was in stable condition at hospital last evening. The child's mother, Antonia Mohammed, suffered a broken nose. She was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

The family members were passengers in a car headed to their home at Francis Village, Erin when the accident occurred last week Sunday. Police said baby Jessica and her 21-year-old mother were seated in the rear seat.

The baby's 30-year-old father was seated in the front passenger seat.
Driver 27-year-old Mark Ramdass was also being treated at hospital.

Police said Ramdass was driving along the Santa Flora main road when he lost control of the vehicle and the car slammed into a truck.

Ramdass and his three passengers were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital by Emergency Medical Services.
An autopsy would be performed on the baby girl today.
Santa Flora police are continuing investigations.
