Back to St Ann's for accused child killer

ST. ANN'S Psychiatric Hospital has requested more time to assess the mental health of accused child killer Dwayne Lewis.

Lewis is currently before the Arima Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of six-year-old Keyana Cumberbatch.

Cumberbatch was reported missing by her mother, Simone Williams, on November 25.

Lewis was taken into police custody on the day Williams was reported missing. He gave a statement to officers investigating Cumberbatch’s disappearance.

On November 26, Lewis was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope after suffering with asthma.

He was handcuffed to his hospital bed and was placed under police custody.

On November 29, he was afforded Legal Aid. and was officially charged for Cumberbatch’s murder on December 10.

He appeared before Senior Magistrate Indrani Cedeno on December 16 and was ordered to a 14-day assessment of his mental health.

Cedeno was today told that the assessment has not completed and that St Ann's needs 14 more days. Lewis was not brought to court. The matter has been adjourned to January 13.
