Bandits set fire, destroy home
Attacked and robbed of cash, valuables...
A SIPARIA man looked on as his house was torched and his possessions went up in flames at the hands of arsonists yesterday.
Guy Bachan, 64, of Coora Road, told police he suffered over $75,000 in losses from the house fire, and he was also robbed of $1,100 in cash and items by the suspects.
Police said Bachan reported that shortly after midnight, he awoke to find three men dressed in dark clothing and armed with cutlasses inside his house.
The victim said the suspects ransacked the house and robbed him of $700, a gold ring valued $300 and a cellphone valued $100.
Bachan told police the thieves tied him up and pushed him outside the property, and he ran to a neighbour’s house.
He reported the suspects set his house on fire and escaped.
Neighbours contacted the Siparia CID and Siparia Fire Services, who responded to the scene.
PC Boodhai is continuing investigations.
