Bandits rob cop: take car, cash

AN OFF-duty police officer was robbed of his vehicle and cash in Chaguanas on Monday.
Mervyn Williams, of Edinburgh 500, said he was held up at around 12.30 a.m. while standing near his Nissan B15 Sentra motor car at a gas station on the Old Southern Main Road.
He said the two thieves left in his car.
The vehicle was found abandoned in Claxton Bay.
In another incident, a 53-year-old Cunupia man was beaten and robbed of over $12,000 in property on Sunday night.
Abdul Shamen, of Rivas Branch Road, reported that at around 9.30 p.m., he was held up by two men, one armed with a shot-gun, as he was securing his front gate.
He told police the thieves forced him upstairs and kicked down his front door.
The thieves beat and robbed Shamen of three cellphones valued $2,500, a flat-screen television valued $5,000 and jewelry valued $5,000.
