A critical water main supplying water to large areas of north Trinidad, was ruptured during piling work on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway this afternoon. The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has begun emergency repairs. The following is a statement by WASA -
Water and Sewerage Authority advises customers in North Trinidad served by the 48” Caroni North Trunk Main of an interruption in their supply. This, after the main was ruptured during piling work being undertaken by a contractor hired by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, along the westbound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Trincity Mall today Wednesday 5th February 2014.
The main was reported ruptured at around 2:30pm; and the supply immediately isolated to allow for damage assessment.
A WASA engineering crew is currently on site and emergency repair works have begun.
Areas affected include:
Port of Spain
Western main road up to West Shore
Mt. Hope Hospital
Customers are advised to manage their water use efficiently. A limited truck-borne water service is available with priority being given to health institutions, special homes and schools.
