THE Harris Promenade in San Fernando could soon become one of the most popular spots in the city, says San Fernando Mayor Dr Navi Muradali.
Last month, the San Fernando City Corporation decided to enhance Harris Promenade and recreate a public space for citizens to enjoy, he said.
The promenade was scrubbed and the walls and railing repainted using "city colours".
Security is be available 24/7, the mayor said.
Christmas lights donated by business were placed on the trees.
Muradali said the cost of the clean-up project was $80,000.
He said, "The next phase of the Harris Promenade enhancement project would be to install benches for the public to use and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
"We have asked for corporate sponsorship of the benches and already Kiss Baking Company Ltd has agreed to donate some of the benches. We have written to TSTT (Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago) for the Wi-Fi hotspot."
Muradali said, "We are also in the process of providing a food-vending area in addition to providing live entertainment on weekends in order to get people back on the promenade."
