With six homicides occurring over the last three days, the murder toll now stands at 213, according to an Express count.
The latest incident took place at about 12.30 p.m. yesterday, when residents of Calvary Branch Road, Arima, detected a foul smell coming from a bushy area.
Upon investigating, residents discovered the decomposing remains of a man lying in a pool of blood.
The body had several injuries to its upper chest which resembled bullet holes, leading investigators to believe that the victim was shot to death before his body was dumped at the side of the roadway.
There were two other murders at the weekend in Port of Spain and Barataria.
The first murder took place about 1.30 a.m. on Saturday when masked men stormed the Barataria home of 39-year-old Hardeo David and killed him as he lay in his bed.
According to police reports, David was at his home with his mother along Sixth Avenue, Barataria, when a group of masked men kicked down the front door of the home and made their way to David’s bedroom.
Without any warning the assailants opened fire on him, before fleeing the scene on foot.
David, it was said, was a labourer by trade, and his autopsy showed that he had been shot 15-20 times by his attackers.
The second took place about 5 a.m. on Saturday when the body of a man was seen lying on the roadway in a pool of blood. The body was said to have two bullet wounds to its head.
The corresponding toll for the same period in 2013 was 185.
