Body of missing fisherman found

The body of missing fisherman Matthew Brown was recovered yesterday during a search by the National Operations Centre (NOC) air division.

Brown’s battered corpse was retrieved from some rocks and flown to a base in Galeota.

The body was viewed by Brown’s relatives and then removed to the San Fernando General Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy would be performed.

The Ministry of National Security stated: “The NOC air division executed a daring search and recovery mission in the turbulent seas, off the east coast of Trinidad for the body of missing fisherman, Matthew Brown. The NOC air division co-ordinated the operation with the assistance of Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard divers, who were flown out to the scene and deployed to secure the body.”

Brown, 24, of Eccles Road, Mayaro, was reported missing on Tuesday after his boat capsized off Pt Galeota around 8.30 a.m.

Two other fishermen—Richard Phillip, 35, and Alexis Cassinare, 40—who were also in the boat were rescued.
