Body found after New Year's sea bath

Drowning suspected

By Carolyn Kissoon

A man who went to take a sea bath on New Year's Day was found dead near the Carli Bay fishing depot on Tuesday.

The body was discovered by fishermen around midday, police said.

He was later identified as 37-year-old Deonarine Ramjit.

Ramjit, of Orange Valley, Carapichaima, was found lying face down on the seashore.

Police said he was clad in a pair of black shorts.

There were no marks of violence about the body.

Relatives believe Ramjit went to bathe in the sea when he got into difficulty and drowned.

Police said the area was used by fishermen and was not frequented by bathers.

The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre where an autopsy will be performed.

Cpl Ramkissoon is continuing investigations.
