THE body of a man, which was found by a group of hikers from a church at Gran Couva on Sunday, has been identified.
Police said the victim is Shazam Kassim, 32, of Barataria.
Kassim's relatives came to the police station on Tuesday, following media reports that gave a description of the body.
Police said the discovery was made by a 16-year-old girl from the Believers in Christ Assembly Hiking Group in Gasparillo, who were making their way to the Camalita Waterfall in the Central Range.
Kassim was found with his hands and feet bound, and a gunshot wound to the head.
There were several tattoos about his body, and he was clad in a black-striped jersey and grey pants.
An autopsy was expected to be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday.
Corporal Lalbeharry, of the Couva Police Station, is investigating.
