Body found in Macoya: police arrest 2 suspects

POLICE have arrested two people in connection with the discovery of a decomposing body believed to be that of a 62-year-old Trincity woman which was found near a garden in Macoya on Friday.

Up to late yesterday the suspects remained in police custody assisting officers with their investigations.

Around 2.45 p.m. on Friday, a gardener stumbled upon the body of the woman in some bushes at Macoya Road Extension and notified the police.

A team of officers from the Northern Division and the Region II Homicide Bureau headed by ASP Nazrool Hosein; Insps Seemungal Rampersad and Phillip; Sgts Wazir Ali and Basdeo Sinanan; and Cpls Roopchan and Bernard visited the scene.

Police said there was a plastic bag over the woman's face and a curtain rod around her neck which was evidence that she was murdered and her body dumped in the area.

According to police, the body fits the description of a 62-year-old Trincity woman who was reported missing by her relatives on January 25.

Relatives of the woman are expected to go to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, tomorrow to identify her body before a post-mortem is conducted to determine the cause of death.

Cpl Roopchan of the Tunapuna CID is probing the incident and is being assisted by a team of homicide detectives including ASP Kenrick Edwards and Insp Rampersad.
