Businessman chopped, robbed

A businessman was chopped by men who robbed him of cash and cellphones on Friday night.

Joseph Ali, 40, was parking his vehicle in a car park at Mucurapo Street, San Fernando, when he was ambushed around 8.40 p.m.

Police said two men, dressed in dark-coloured clothing, robbed Ali of $9,000 and two cellphones. He was then beaten with a cutlass about the body. The men escaped.

Ali, of Ridgewood Gardens, Golconda, was chopped several times.

He is the owner of Joselle's Variety and Video Club.

Ali was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

PC Pulchan of the San Fernando Police Station is continuing investigations.
