Cadiz rushed to Miami hospital

By Kim Boodram

TOURISM Minister Stephen Cadiz was rushed to the Metropolitan Hospital in Miami, United States yesterday after falling ill at the Miami International Airport.

Communication Minister Jamal Mohammed yesterday told the Express in a telephone interview that Cadiz was "feeling unwell and complained of experiencing chest pains".

Cadiz was en route to Seattle to hold discussions with the franchise holders of two major cruise lines when he collapsed yesterday.

A release from the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday stated that Cadiz underwent a "series of examinations" and was scheduled to be held overnight at the Metropolitan Hospital for observation.

Cadiz was listed as being in "stable condition: and is expected to be discharged from hospital today, the release stated.

Cadiz's wife, Suzettte, and one of his sons are said to have travelled to Miami to be by his side.

The other members of the Tourism Ministry's delegation proceeded to Seattle as planned, the release from the Office of the Prime Minister stated yesterday.

Cadiz took up the tourism portfolio just over a month ago following a Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, up to which time he had spent two years as Minister of Trade and Industry.
