The calypso season kicks off for 2013 this Friday with the opening of the Calypso Revue, founded by the late calypsonian Lord Kitchener and the Klassic Ruso tents.
The Calypso Revue calypso tent will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a gala opening at Arima Velodrome from 8.30 p.m. with a slate of over 30 calypsonians. Following Friday night's opening, the tent will then be opened at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) in San Fernando, on January 13.
From January 17, the tent will be based at SWWTU Hall on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain, for the remainder of the Calypso season.
Guests at the gala opening and at NAPA will have an opportunity to win a 45-inch flat screen TV.
Revue officials have said that this calypso season is expected to be a bumper season with calypsonians tackling a plethora of topics which their fans will enjoy.
Calpsonians including Sugar Aloes, Skatie, Pink Panther, Devon Seale, Bally, Ninja, Sexy Suzie, Nicole Greaves, Lady Tallish and Exposer are prepared to give patrons a memorable experience. Patrons purchasing tickets before January 11 will receive $20 off.
Klassic Ruso Calypso Tent is also expected to launch their off their calypso season this Friday at City Hall Knox Street, Port of Spain.
The cast includes All Rounder, Contender, Versatile, Manchild, Black Prince, Lady Wonder, Longo and Shirlane Hendrickson.
The tent will run for four weeks.
