Car thief nabbed in St Joseph

The swift action of officers from St Joseph Police Station resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old man mere moments after he allegedly stole a white Nissan B14 motor vehicle from Price Plaza Mall in Chaguanas.

According to police reports, the vehicle was reported missing by its owner to Central Division police at about 11.35 p.m. on Saturday and an all points bulletin (APB) with the make and description of the car was issued.

At about 12.30 a.m. yesterday, officers of the St Joseph CID and Task Force on mobile patrol, including Sgt Rene Katwaroo, PC Samaroo, PC Thomas, PC Williams and PC John, observed a vehicle matching the description in the APB driving along Riverside Road, St Joseph.

The officers intercepted the car and spoke to the driver.

When he was unable to give proper proof of ownership, the 30-year-old man was detained and transferred to the St Joseph station.

The suspect, police said, when questioned then gave three different addresses in Sangre Grande, Tobago and Arima.

He was then handed over to detectives in Central Division who are expected to charge the suspect with larceny of a motor vehicle.
