A Carapichaima mother was found dead in her bathroom yesterday and a 50-year-old man who allegedly confessed to killing her later attempted suicide by drinking poison.
Marilyn Murggan, 50, of Wyaby Road, Waterloo, was found hours after she had an argument over money with the suspect, police said.
According to police, Murggan was found semi-conscious by two of her daughters at around 6.15 a.m.
She was taken to Couva Health Facility, where she was pronounced dead.
Police suspect that Murggan was strangled, since there were marks of violence about her neck.
Police said that Murggan’s children were contacted by their siblings, who informed them that the suspect had admitted to killing her.
Hours later, police were contacted by residents of Victoria Street, Gasparillo, who said that a man was seen lying roadside, frothing at the mouth.
Police went to the scene and discovered it was the suspect, who they were told was seen drinking a poisonous substance.
He was taken to San Fernando General Hospital for treatment and is under police guard.
A party of officers led by Senior Superintendent Johnny Abraham went to the crime scene.
An autopsy is expected to be performed on Murggan’s body today at Forensic Science Centre, St James.
