A CARENAGE man described as a known gang member was shot dead early yesterday morning when a gunman opened fire on patrons at a bar on the Western Main Road, Carenage.
As a result the murder toll stood at 184 up to last night, three more (181) than last year's corresponding toll.
Police said around 3.30 a.m. a gunman walked into a bar located at the corner of Baird Street and Western Main Road, and shot at Antonio Castanada alias, "Bosses", hitting him four times about the body. During the melee three other persons, all from Abbe Poujade Street in the area, were also injured.
Doug Norton, 22, was shot in his left foot, La Toya De Coteau, 27, was shot in her left leg and buttocks and Aaron Ayunie, 27, was shot in his right leg.
Friends of Castanada took him to the St James District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Norton, De Coteau and Ayunie were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where they were treated. They remained warded up to press time last night.
Cpls Sylvester and McCain of the Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations.
