Chaguanas businessman in court for tax evasion

A 33-YEAR-OLD Chaguanas businessman appeared in court yesterday charged with 61 counts of fraud.

Shivanand Soodeen, owner of Jagannatha IT Solutions, appeared before Chaguanas Magistrate Alexander Prince. Soodeen, of Kestral Boulevard, Edinburgh 500, was charged with evading the payment of Value Added Tax (VAT). The alleged offences were said to have been committed between 2008 into this year.

The charges were laid by tax officer Rawle Sookhoo.

The father of one was arrested during a police exercise conducted by the Central Police Division between Wednesday and yesterday morning.

Soodeen was remanded in prison custody while police conduct a tracing of his criminal record.

The cases were postponed to Monday and transferred to the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court. —SM
