Chamber looks forward to working with London

The Chamber of Commerce, the country's biggest business group, has congratulated Orville London and the People's National Movement (PNM) on their 12-seat victory in Monday's Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election.

"We believe that all parties have made a valiant effort in campaigning during this election, and so we take this opportunity to also congratulate the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) and the Tobago Platform of Truth (TPT) for a well-fought campaign," the Chamber said in a statement on Tuesday night.

"We now look forward to working with Mr London and his team to create the private sector jobs that will fix the economy of Tobago. The Chamber continues to be committed to working with the Chief Secretary to develop the island's depressed tourism sector, diversify its economy and return Tobago on its path to growth."

The Chamber said there were many other proposals to boost tourism in Tobago which were announced in 2012 by the central government, and with the elections at an end, "we look forward to both the THA and central government working together to have these projects implemented in the near future".

The group said it was confident the Orville London-led THA, which will be the sole party representing Tobago, will continue to work with stakeholders both in Tobago and Trinidad.
