TWO days after surrendering to police, 30-year-old Jayvon “Rastaman” Caesar appeared in court yesterday charged with killing his landlady.
Caesar first gave his address as Saddle Road, Santa Cruz, but had it changed after the description of where he lived fell in the La Canoa, Upper San Juan area.
Caesar, an unemployed man, is charged with killing Vidya Persad on August 6.
Persad, 45, was beaten to death with a hammer, allegedly by a tenant. He surrendered to officers of the Homicide Bureau, Arouca on Tuesday morning with his attorney Amanda Lakhai.
Caesar appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar.
When he was given the adjourned date of September 12, Caesar asked the Chief Magistrate to inform another magistrate in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court that he would be in custody and would not be able to attend to his matter on September 5.
Ayers-Caesar advised him that his wife, who was present in court, should be the one to do that.
PC Nigel Samuel of the Homicide Bureau, Arouca laid the charge.
