ToolsChild falls from Oval standA child was rushed to hospital yesterday after falling from the Jeffrey Stollmeyer Stand at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain as patrons gathered for masman Brian MacFarlane's Independence Day extravaganza. Details coming out of the incident were sketchy, but the child was said to have been taken via ambulance to the Port of Spain General Hospital, accompanied by relatives and a doctor who was present to attend the show. The presentation, for which admission was free, was due to start at 6 p.m. yesterday but was delayed as patrons took some time to file in. An announcement of the accident was made, with patrons being asked to clear the way as ambulance personnel made their way in. Entitled "Journey to Jubilee", the show was billed as a celebration and reflection on 50 years of Independence that was to last over four hours, ending in "spectacular special effects and fireworks". Among the large contingent of performers listed in newspaper advertisements leading up to the show were Ella Andall, Neval Chatelal, Wendy Sheppard, Black Stalin, JMC 3Veni, De Fosto, Drupatee, Asylum featuring Fay-Ann and Bunji, and Rikki Jai |
