Child killed by falling gate

A THREE-YEAR-OLD Couva child was killed on Wednesday when a metal sliding gate fell on him.

Zuri Singh, of Railway Road, Dow Village, died after his skull was crushed, an autopsy found yesterday.

Police said on Wednesday afternoon Zuri was with his father, Durvijay, at Thalia Road, Roystonia, where the family is renovating a house.

Investigators were told that at around 5 p.m., the boy's father heard a loud crash and when he checked on it, found the gate on top of the child.

Police said the gate is approximately seven feet high and ten feet wide.

The child was taken to Couva Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An autopsy was conducted on the child's body yesterday by pathologist Dr Eslyn McDonald-Burris at the Forensic Science Centre.

On Tuesday, a pupil of ASJA Primary School in Point Fortin was injured when a sliding gate fell on him as he was opening it. The boy was taken to hospital for treatment.
