Construction on Beetham overpass to start in January

Construction on the overpass on the Beetham Highway in the vicinity of Sea Lots is expected to begin in the second quarter of fiscal 2015, between January 1 and March 30, 2015.

Minister of Works Suruj Rambachan said however that this was dependent on several factors, namely the relocation exercise by various utilities. He said the National Gas Company had a gas line which runs in the direct path of the proposed overpass. There was also a WASA line, he said.

And, he added, TSTT and Flow also had facilities which hindered the construction.

He said Government was trying to come up with a lighter structure which would not require relocation of the utility lines.

Rambachan also stated that Government also planned to construct overpasses at the POS Ferry Terminal, Wrightson Road and MovieTowne.

He was responding to a question from Port of Spain South MP Marlene McDonald in the House of Representatives on Monday.

Meanwhile, in answer to a question from Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley, Public Administration Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan revealed that the job evaluation exercise for office-holders under the purview of the Salaries Review Commission is expected to start in July 2015 and be completed in July 2015.
