A POLICE officer and a suspected thief were shot on Tuesday during a police exercise in New Grant.
Police constable Lincoln Morris, who is attached to the Robbery Squad at the Princes Town Police Station, was shot in the knee. The suspect was shot in the hand, police said.
According to a report, police officers of the Princes Town Robbery Squad and CID received a tip-off on the whereabouts of a suspect involved in a series of robberies in the district.
At around 3 p.m. the officers went to a house in School Trace and during a confrontation with the suspect Morris was shot. Police officers returned fire, and the suspect was also wounded. Officers said the house was searched and two firearms were recovered.
Both Morris and the suspect were taken to the Princes Town Health Facility where they were treated and then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where they were expected to be warded.
