Cop testifies against cops

AN OFFICER from the Anti-Corruption Investigation Bureau (ACIB) took the stand in the San Fernando Magistrates' Court yesterday as a State witness against four officers charged with misbehaviour in public office.
Sergeant Krishenlal Nanan was cross examined for half an hour in the case against corporals Deopersad Jankienanan and Kishan Harrysingh and constable Anslem Drakes of the Southern Division Task Force.
The men are charged with failing to hand over an undisclosed sum of money to investigators following a robbery at Club Avenue 5, Duncan Village, San Fernando on August 21, 2009.
Constable Reagan Ramanan was charged with beating one of the men charged with the robbery. Jankienanan also faces an assault charge.
The four were charged by Sergeant Kirk Thomas of the ACIB.
Attorneys Kevin Ratiram, Jagdeo Singh, Faraz Mohammed, Chateram Sinanan and senior counsel Vernon De Lima are representing the men.
The case was adjourned to September 20.
