POLICE are seeking the assistance of the Venezuelan Embassy in confirming the identities of the couple found with multiple gunshot wounds in a forested area in Brasso, Central Trinidad, on Tuesday.
Police have information that the body of the woman was identified as that of Gladys Otiz and the man as Jose Vasquez Marcano, both of Venezuela. They had gunshot wounds in the head and upper body.
When the Express contacted the Venezuelan Embassy yesterday, an official said the embassy did not have a statement on the issue.
Police said they need confirmation on the identities before autopsies can be done at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
The bodies were found on the roadway near an agricultural estate off Flanagin Road.
The district medical officer who examined the bodies said they may have been killed less than 24 hours before the discovery.
A Toyota Corolla was found abandoned less than a quarter-mile away, with a suitcase in the trunk.
Police said the couple had entered Trinidad on Sunday from the Venezuelan territory of Margarita, en route to Grenada.
