MAYARO police are searching for the driver of the car which struck and killed Darius Dyer Rigues yesterday morning as he was heading home from a wake in the area.
Eyewitnesses said that the speeding car hit Rigues, 32 of La Brea Village, Guayaguayare and dragged him several metres.
The vehicle did not stop. The incident happened around 4.30 a.m.
It was said that Rigues stopped at a bar while on his way home from the wake. As he continued his journey, he was struck a short distance away from the establishment.
The vehicle is yet to be identified.
Rigues, a supervisor, died on the spot.
Hours later Mayaro police officers were also contacted after a decomposing body was found in a forested area at Rust Road, Guyayaguayare.
Around 8 a.m, a crab catcher found the body of a man of African ethnicity.
Police believe the man, who was dressed in a pair of jeans and multi-coloured jersey had been dead for the past three days.
A bottle, suspected to contain a poisonous substance, was found nearby.
The body and the liquid were taken to the Forensic Sciences Centre in St James yesterday.
