Cops probe two weekend murders

POLICE are investigating two more murders which occurred on Saturday night.
In the first killing, Ronyston Gupty, alias “Killist”, a 24-year-old construction worker from Straker Village, Laventille, was shot dead in an area called Canada in Laventille.
Police reports state that around 6.30 p.m., residents of the area heard gunshots and contacted the police.
Officers of the Inter Agency Task Force and Besson Street Police Station responded and found Gupty lying on the road.
Police said 28 spent shells were discovered.
WPC Lezama of Homicide Bureau is spearheading investigations.
In the second killing, Garvin Ricardo Frene, 32, of Febeau Village, San Juan, was pronounced dead on arrival at Port of Spain General Hospital.
According to police reports, residents of First Private Road, Mt Hope, heard gunshots around 9.20 p.m. and, upon checking, found Frene lying dead at the side of the road.
The residents contacted police, and officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force visited the scene.
Police said some men in a black Nissan Sentra B-13 carried out the killing.
The murder toll for the year to date is 265.
